Almost a decade ago, Northwestern University embarked on an ambitious fundraising campaign with priorities that included fostering discovery and creativity, integrating the student experience, connecting campus and community, and engaging locally and globally.

At the Judd A. and Marjorie Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, we committed to supporting the University’s priorities by building on the College’s strengths in interdisciplinary thinking.

We were guided by three topical themes: A Data Revolution, When Cultures Meet, and The Nature of Things. And these themes rest on our unwavering commitment to enhancing faculty excellence, investing in our students’ success, and promoting the global reach of our curriculum and our research.

I am thrilled to report that we not only achieved our fundraising goals, but thanks to the generosity of our donors, we exceeded them. Thanks to you—our supporters, alumni, parents, and friends. We are honored that you invested in this vision of Weinberg College.

With this funding, we have been able transform our campus and support our students, faculty, and the Northwestern community in the broadest sense.

Our students echo these thanks for your commitments. They feel the impact of philanthropy in laboratories, on their global experiences, with their peer mentors, and above all in the opportunity to engage with award-winning teachers.

Our faculty are also grateful for your investments in their research—from building state of the art science laboratories and art studios to new programs that help faculty members generate exciting fresh knowledge. Their work propels research across disciplines, producing new ways of thinking, understanding, and solving society’s greatest challenges.

Here at Weinberg College, your philanthropy allowed us to address the data revolution head-on, ensuring data-literacy among students and expanded understandings of the impact of data collection on all our lives. It has permitted us to understand and engage with a diverse set of cultures and cultural expressions more deeply, and it has energized our investigations into our evolving relationship with the natural world.

As the dean of the College, I have learnt so much from all of you—hearing about the extraordinary impact Northwestern has had on your lives and the lives of your loved ones. Your desire to help future generations is inspiring. Whether supporting the sciences, the social sciences, the arts, or the humanities, gifts to Weinberg College help us all better understand the richness and diversity of the past, the pressing problems of today, and the extraordinary opportunities of tomorrow.
